This is an automated response.
Thank you for contacting the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee in the House of Commons. This is an automated response to let you know that your email has been received. Please be aware that we receive a significant volume of emails. If we consider that your query is dealt with by the information below or is not in our remit we will not respond further. We do not usually respond to emails to which we are copy recipients.
Individual cases
In line with the general practice of select committees, the Committee is unable to take up individual cases, including those relating to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO). The Committee is responsible for scrutinising the general work and performance of the PHSO, and to examine any reports it lays before Parliament, but it does not have any power to compel or direct the Ombudsman to act in a particular way.
The Committee cannot review the PHSO's decisions about individual cases. This includes the PHSO's decisions on whether or not to accept a case. As the office of the PHSO is independent, decisions cannot be overruled by a government minister or any parliamentary committee.
However, if you are not happy with a PHSO decision, you can ask the PHSO to review that decision. Further information about how to do this can be found on the PHSO website.
The Committee is currently undertaking an inquiry into the work and performance of the PHSO. You can find out more here.
We do not accept submissions to any of our inquiries via email.
If you would like political support or advice in relation to your individual case you may wish to contact your local Member of Parliament.
If you need confidential, impartial advice on a range of issues, Citizens Advice may be able to help you: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/
Proposals for scrutiny work and meeting requests
While we welcome proposals for future inquiries and scrutiny work, we cannot comment on the potential merits or likelihood of implementation of such suggestions. The Committee’s future work programme is decided in private by the Chair and Members. Due to data protection considerations, the Committee does not retain correspondence from members of the public on file if this is requested.
We consider all meeting requests and invitations sent to this inbox, but we may be unable to respond directly to everyone. If we wish to arrange a meeting or attend your event, we will be in touch in due course. The Committee does not endorse individual campaigns, products or services.
